The newest tree will be a river birch to be planted at Glyndon Park at 4:30 p.m. Friday, April 29, in honor of Arbor Day and in celebration of Vienna once again (for the 15th consecutive year) being named a Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service and National Association of State Foresters, according to a Town news release. Here's more about the designation and planting ceremony, from the news release:

Vienna joins more than 3,400 communities nationwide who meet Tree City USA requirements: having a tree board or department, a tree-care ordinance, an annual community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita, and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.

However, Vienna also received a Tree City USA Growth Award, which recognizes communities with higher levels of tree care and an increased commitment of resources for urban forestry.

“Vienna takes pride in its varied tree population,” says Town Arborist Gary Lawrence. “The green framework of the Town adds to its warm character.”

The public is invited to attend the April 29 tree-planting at Glyndon Park, 300 Glyndon Street NE.
