All seven Town Council seats including mayor are on the ballot at the same time, a change from past staggered two-year terms. A chance in Virginia law also moved town elections from May to November.

Mayor Linda Colbert is running unopposed for re-election. Seven candidates are running for the other six seats on Town Council — incumbent Councilmembers Sandra Allen, Charles "Chuck" Anderson, Roy Baldwin, Jessica Ramakis and Howard Springsteen and newcomers Doug Francis and Dan Nash. Councilmember Ray Brill is not seeking re-election. The elections are listed as nonpartisan on the ballot. There is a write-in option for the elections.

According to the town government, the Town Council made up of the mayor and six councilmembers sets policies, ordinances and resolutions, approves the annual town budget, sets tax rates, approves land use proposals, and makes appointments to town boards and commissions. Only residents within town limits are eligible to vote in the town elections. Elections are managed by the Fairfax County Office of Elections.

Early voting for the November election will begin on Friday, Sept. 19. Polls will be open from 6 a.m to 7 p.m. on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 4. Other races on the ballot will be Virginia governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general and Virginia House of Delegates 12th District. There are also Fairfax County public school bonds up for a voter referendum.
