Virginia Baseball: Madison Wins Liberty District Championship

The Madison High School baseball team easily defeated Langley 11-2 on Monday to earn the 2013 Liberty District title — its eighth such title in just more than a decade.

The win earns the Warhawks a top seed in the upcoming Northern Region tournament.

It's been a storybook season for the Warhawks, including Coach Mark "Pudge" Gjormand, who earned his 300th win May 1 and was named the Liberty District Coach of the year.

After starting off the season with 3-2 loss to Fairfax, Madison came back with a win and hasn't looked back, going on to win 21 straight games including Monday's championship.

Three of the last four games have been shutouts, as the Warhawks have held their opponents scoreless throughout all innings.

Madison will play at 5:30 p.m. Friday against Edison High at home.
