Here are the top three stories in Winchester today:
- Between today, Apr. 3, and Friday, Apr. 7, there will be intermittent lane closures near the N. Pleasant Valley Road, National Avenue, and Berryville Avenue intersection. A local service provider will be working on the stormwater infrastructure in the area. (Winchester City via Twitter)
- For the first time in Winchester's history, a jury found a person guilty of murder after giving drugs to someone who overdosed. On Thursday, Mar. 30, a Winchester Circuit Court jury found 32-year-old Britney Hope Barr of Wardensville guilty of felony homicide and distribution of fentanyl. On Sep. 17, 2020, Barr gave Wilson "Warner" Cropp III a lethal combination of fentanyl and etizolam, then took his phone and fled after realizing he was overdosing. Barr will be sentenced on Jun. 23 and faces a maximum of 80 years in prison. (Subscription: Winchester Star)
- The Winchester Farmer's Market has switched to its spring/summer hours over the weekend. The market schedule will now be Saturdays and Tuesdays, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the parking lot of Freedom Ag & Energy, 447 Amherst St. The market sells a variety of local products from local vendors. - Animal control found a female, tan, cocker spaniel on Mar. 31 and brought the dog to the Winchester Area SPCA. The dog does not have a collar or microchip.
