  1. Three Virginia National Guard units, including troops from Winchester, will lead Joint Task Force Cardinal as part of Operation Lone Star to assist in securing the southern border. The deployment is a response to Texas Gov, Greg Abbott's call for assistance after the expiration of Title 42. Gov. Glenn Youngkin's directive will send approximately 100 National Guard members and supporting personnel to Texas, with an estimated cost of $3.1 million for a 30-day operation. (The Center Square)
  2. Gov. Youngkin has announced several key appointments to Virginia boards and administration positions. Among the appointments, Kevin D. Shreiner, a professional land surveyor from Winchester, has been appointed to the Board of Architects, Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, Certified Interior Designers and Landscape Architects. The appointments cover various areas such as education, agriculture, finance, health and human resources, labor, natural and historic resources, transportation, and veterans and defense affairs.   3. The North End Neighbors community is encouraged to attend a meeting where they can receive answers to their questions directly from the local government. Perry Eisenach, the public services director, will be present at the meeting scheduled for Saturday, Jul. 15 at 11:00 a.m. The gathering will take place at The Douglass School.
