Here are the top three stories today in Winchester:
- On Tuesday, May 9, Desmon Tremaine Wheeler pleaded guilty to six felonies for his role in a violent carjacking that occurred on Mar. 8, 2022, near Winchester. Due to an agreement with the Frederick County Commonwealth's Attorney's Office, in exchange for the admission of guilt, Wheeler will serve 10 years in prison, five years supervised probation, and was ordered to pay $2,756 in restitution to the victim of the crime. Isaiah Asher Houston, 25, Wheeler's alleged accomplice, is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on May 23. (Winchester Star)
- Warren County Sheriffโs Deputy Zachary Fadley and Deputy Tyler Poe have been indicted by a grand jury and are accused of hurting 77-year-old Ralph Carlton Ennis, of Gainesville, on Apr. 2, 2022. The sheriff's office said Fadley, who has been indicted for malicious wounding, and Poe, who has been indicted for unlawful wounding, were trying to restrain Ennis when they fell over the trailer hitch of Ennis' pick-up truck. The fall left Ennis with a wound on his head and hand. After being cared for at both Warren Memorial Hospital and Winchester Medical Center, Ennis died on Apr. 15, 2022, under the care of Blue Ridge Hospice of Winchester. (WFXR-TV)
- The City of Winchester recently posted a list of current and upcoming road closures. From May 8 through May 22, S. Loudoun Street, from Cecil to Leicester, will be closed from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, for the City utility project. From May 8 through May 16, Whittier Avenue, from Walker to Amherst, will be closed for the City utility project. On May 13, Boscawen Street, from Indian Alley to Cameron, will be closed from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. for Old Town KidzFest. (Winchester City VA)
