• Union High School parent says he's concerned with school board's accountability (wjhl.com) — A Union High School parent from Wise County is pressing the school board for more transparency and accountability after the football coach was charged with serious crimes and placed on leave. He says a recent closed session and vague safety statements aren’t enough, while Wise County Public Schools cites Virginia law and promises to follow required procedures. Parents plan to attend the January 12 board meeting.
   

• LR Women's Basketball Pulls Away Late in Win Over Catawba (whky.com) — Lenoir-Rhyne’s women’s basketball team will visit UVA Wise this Saturday for a 2 p.m. tipoff in Wise after edging Catawba 78–72 behind a 31-point night from Aaliyah El. The Bears, now 5–3, face a strong Cavaliers squad that’s 6–2 and unbeaten in South Atlantic Conference play, setting up a key early-season matchup for local fans.
   

• James 'Jimmie' Fletcher McReynolds, 91, of Poquoson (wydaily.com) — A longtime Virginian who was born in Wise County in 1934, James “Jimmie” Fletcher McReynolds has passed away at 91 while living with his daughter in Poquoson. Family and friends can pay their respects at visitation in Williamsburg on December 15, followed by funeral and committal services on December 16.
