Prince William County Department of Fire and Rescue Chief Kevin McGee announced today the promotion of Battalion Chief Matt Smolsky to Assistant Chief. The promotion takes effect July 2, 2011.  Chief Smolsky will lead the Operations Section. The Operations Section coordinates the career staffing for the fire and rescue apparatus.   Chief Smolsky has been with the Department for almost 34 years.  During this period he has progressed through the ranks to his current assignment.  His past assignments include tactical unit leader, Station Commander, Assistant Fire Marshal, Emergency Medical Services Chief, Department Planning Officer, Public Information Officer, Emergency Services, Department Intel Officer, and Operations Battalion Chief.  He is a graduate of the University of Maryland and theNational Fire Academy's Executive Fire Officer Program.  He is married with three children.
