County Libraries Now Offer E-Books

New system allows e-books to be downloaded on a variety of devices

Cardholders with the Prince William County library system can now download e-books from the library’s website, either to a computer and then to their e-reading device or directly via a free application, to a smartphone.

To check out the e-books, check out and download digital media anytime, anywhere by visiting: http://www.pwcgov.org/library and clicking on the “Download ebooks and audiobooks” button.

E-books can be transferred to a variety of devices, including Sony® Readers™, Nooks, iPads, iPods, Kobo readers and many others. In a few months, those with Kindle devices will be able to use library e-books, too. The library’s vendor, Overdrive, is currently working with Amazon toward that end.

“We’ve waited a long time to offer this service in order to be sure we could do it right,” said Charlie Rosenthal, the librarian who selects ebooks for the library.  “We’re starting out with popular reading titles, and we will grow and expand the collection as new items become available.”
