Shortly before 10 p.m., police went to the scene for a reported domestic incident. A 54-year-old man said Payne—an acquaintance—went to his home and began pounding on the door. When he answered, they got into an argument that escalated. She then hit him.
When police arrived, they determined she was intoxicated and detained her. While taking Payne to a police cruiser, she tried to kick one of the cops before being subdued without further incident.
