Fire and Rescue Activity at Harborview Condominiums Evacuates Building

Residents were evacuated from the building as a precaution, but no smoke was visible from the exterior of the building.

Residents of Belmont Bay's Harborview Condominums had a rough start to their Monday morning. Fire and rescue crews were called to the scene at 485 Harbor Side Street just before 10 a.m. for reports of smoke.

Residents of the complex were told over a PA system that they needed to evacuate the building while crews figured out what the problem was. No smoke was visible from the exterior of the building and there were no reported injuries. Displaced residents gathered just outside the front entrance of the building while fire and rescue units were staged up and down Harbor Side and Tides streets.

Some residents said they did not smell or see smoke inside the building as they were evacuating. Just before 11 a.m., residents were allowed back into the building after a malfunctioning HVAC unit on the roof was pinpointed as the culprit for the smoke.
