Flash Flood Warning, High Water Close Roads

Union Street in Occoquan was impassable late Thursday

Update Sept. 8, 7:07 p.m.: NWS has extended the flood warning until 11 p.m. Thursday night. VRE has six buses arriving at Franconia at 7:20 p.m. with more on the way. According to Weatherbug.com, Woodbridge has received 3.45 inches of rain so far. 

Update Sept. 8, 6:35 p.m.: Virginia Rail Express trains are no longer running south of Franconia. VRE said to expect a two-hour delay.  VRE will be busing passengers home. The system tweeted: "Need to bus approx 1,500 people. Highly recommend alternative transport if you can get it. Buses will pick up passengers at Franconia."

Northern Virginia Community College said, "College Drive partially flooded. Use north entrance across from Freedom HS. South end is exit only. Use caution!"

A flash flood warning is in effect for Prince William County until 9:15 p.m. Thursday.

Consecutive days of heavy rains have left the roads saturated this week, but road closures were evident across the county Thursday. As of 3:45 p.m. on Thursday, Hylton Avenue at Baxter Street was still closed. Route 1 at Easy Street was also closed with one lane of traffic getting by. Friday there is a 30 percent change of thunderstorms, said the National Weather Service.
