
Hussna Azamy, of Gar-Field High School, won a 2011 McDonald’s Educates Scholarship worth $1,500.
Azamy is one of 53 area high school seniors that have received scholarships from the McDonald’s Family Restaurants of Greater Washington, D.C. ® through the 8th Annual McDonald’s Educates Scholarship Program.
Over 520 applications were received and reviewed by a panel of judges that included Greater Washington, D.C. McDonald’s franchisees.

This year, local McDonald’s franchisees awarded the 53 honorees scholarships in three amounts, $5,000, $2,500 or $1,500, which will go directly to the college or university the student plans to attend. This year’s awards total 94,000 dollars given to help support funding of the winners’ college educations.
Winning students demonstrated dedication to volunteerism, leadership, academic excellence and character. Requirements for applicants included a completed application, a letter of recommendation from a teacher, guidance counselor, or community service leader, and two short essays. This year’s essay topics asked students to reflect on their community and how they plan to give back in their future.

To date, the McDonald’s Family Restaurants of Greater Washington, D.C. have awarded over 500,000 dollars to local students through the annual McDonald’s Educates Scholarship Program.
