Man Pleads Guilty In Fatal Shooting Of Ex-Girlfriend's Romantic Partner

Prosecutors say the defendant targeted the victim as a new romantic partner of his ex-girlfriend.

WOODBRIDGE, VA — A homicide at a Woodbridge sports bar and hookah lounge led to a guilty plea Monday, according to the Prince William County Commonwealth's Attorney's office.

Traivon Johnson, 29, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, conspiracy to commit second-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and conspiracy to commit use of a firearm in commission of a felony.

The charges stemmed from a March 25, 2021 fatal shooting at Babylon Woodbridge (3081 Golansky Blvd.). Prince William County Police had responded to a shooting report and found a victim with gunshot wounds in the neck, abdomen, shoulders and legs. During the investigation, police obtained surveillance footage showing a suspect shoot a gun in Babylon Woodbridge's parking lot before fleeing the scene.

Cartridge casings found in Johnson's home and at the crime scene were determined to be from the same gun, prosecutors say.

"Gun violence such as this will not be tolerated in our community," said Commonwealth's Attorney Amy Ashworth. "Resolution of this tragic case took many years, but through the continued cooperation of Prince William County Police detectives and the hard work of the attorneys in this office, a strong case was built that has resulted in guilty pleas to very serious charges."

Sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 20. Victim witness case managers provided assistance to the victim's family during the case.
