Local Speller Misses National Bee Advancement by One Letter
Lori Anne Madison has not moved to the third round.
, from Woodbridge, is out of the third round of the Scripps National Spelling Bee contest at National Harbor, MD.
The word that knocked Lori Anne out of the competition? "Ingluvies," meaning "crop or widened portion of the esophagus, in many mollusks, insects, and birds." According to the Scripps National Spelling Bee results website, Lori Anne missed the word by one letter, spelling the word "engluvies."
Lori Anne won the Prince William County spelling bee a few months ago by spelling "vaquero;" she is the youngest speller in history to compete on the national level.
