Case of the missing rims solved

Prince William County Police arrested an Alexandria man in conjunction with recent tire and rim thefts from a Woodbridge car dealership. 

Police spokesperson Jonathan Perok said that police were checking Lindsay Chevrolet off of Jefferson Davis Highway –– and found five 2011 Chevrolet Tahoes on bricks.

The Tahoes, discovered at 4:25 a.m. on April 5, were missing rims and tires. Perok said that in total, 12 sets of tires and rims were missing and damage to the vehicles because of the bricks totaled around $28,000.

Police then found a 2006 Chrysler Town and Country van in the parking lot of Lindsay Chevrolet that had five sets of tires and rims in addition to tools needed to remove the items. Three other sets of tires and rims were found at the dealership, police said. 

The van was a rental, which was rented to Rafael Fortuna Butler III, of Alexandria. Police said that police obtained warrants on April 6 to search Butler’s residence in Alexandria City. With the assistance of Alexandria Police, police arrested Butler as well as additional tires, rims and tools. Police said the investigation continues.

Butler is charged with grand larceny with the intent to sell, possession of burglarious tools and destruction of property.

Filing a false police report

A Richman man was arrested after telling police he was robbed at gunpoint at the Woodbridge on April 7.

Alibaba Abbasi, 22 of Richmond, told police that he was on delivery at the Prince William Parkway Target when an unknown man robbed him. Police said that upon further investigation, Abbasi lied to police about the robbery and the money was actually stolen from his unlocked truck while in Fairfax.

Abbasi is charged with filing a false police report and was released on a $3,000 unsecured bond.

Jeep stolen, 16-year-old bails out in Dale City

A 16-year-old boy from Woodbridge has been arrested after police said he stole a 2006 Jeep SUV from a residence at the 14800 block of Empire St on Tuesday.

The victim, a 43-year-old Woodbridge man, told police his Jeep was parked in fornt of his residence and was stolen between 11:30 p.m. on April 4 and 7:30 am. On April 5.

Police said the vehicle was entered into the state and national database as stolen and on April 6 a routine patrol driving a cruiser with Automatic License Plate Recognition technology was alerted to the car in the area of Mapledale Ave and Dale Blvd in Dale City. As officers tried to stop the car, the 16-year-old bailed out of the car and a brief foot pursuit ensued before the teen was taken into custody.

The teenager is charged with two counts of grand larceny and one count of petit larceny.
