WOODBRIDGE, VA — Smoke detectors alerted residents to a Woodbridge house fire early Tuesday, allowing them to safely escape.
Around 2:44 a.m. Tuesday, Prince William County Fire and Rescue responded to the 2800 block of Gloucester Court in Woodbridge. Residents had already escaped when the fire department arrived. The townhouse had smoke showing, and units quickly extinguished the fire.
The fire marshal's office determined unattended cooking was the cause of the fire. One resident had been preparing food in the kitchen but went to lie down and fell asleep. Smoke detectors woke up the resident, who alerted the other resident in the home.
