Stolen Car Tracking Tags To Be Distributed In Woodbridge

Free tracking tags will be provided to Prince William County residents to help with recovery of stolen vehicles.

WOODBRIDGE, VA — With stolen car cases trending up in Prince William County, police will distribute tracking tags to help recover vehicles.

The distribution of free tracking tags will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. — or until supplies run out — on Saturday, Oct. 12 at Woodbridge Senior High School, 3001 Old Bridge Road, Woodbridge, VA. Prince William County residents can receive a free tracking device with documentation showing identification and proof of address.

Residents should bring their vehicle to have the device installed by a detective. Property Crimes detectives will be on hand to help inform residents on how to keep their property safe.

If a car is stolen, residents will let authorities know if their car has a tracking device. For stolen vehicles in Prince William County, residents can call Prince William County Communications Center at 703-792-6500 to report the theft and indicate if it has a tracking device. Residents can log into their account to find the real-time location of the device and let responding officers know.

According to police, "completed motor vehicle thefts" are up more than 12 percent in the first half of 2024 compared to the same time in 2023.
