
The Historic Preservation Division will host tours of the landscape and gardens at Rippon Lodge on Saturday, May 7, 2011, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The formal gardens were planted by Judge Wade Ellis and his wife Dessie in the 1930s. Learn about plans to restore the gardens, enjoy the spring blooms, and see our champion Elm and Hackberry trees.
Tours begin on the hour with the last tour starting at 3 p.m. The cost is $7 per person, children under 6 are free. Please dress for the weather and wear comfortable walking shoes. No pets please. Tours of the house are included. No reservations are necessary.
The Prince William County Historic Preservation Division manages and operates Prince William County-owned historic properties. Rippon Lodge Historic Site was built circa 1747 and is one the oldest known homes in Prince William County. The restored house sits on 47-acres over looking Neabsco Creek and the Potomac River.
