What's Up With That? Cyclists on Old Bridge Road
Why were there cyclists and a police escort on Old Bridge Road and Prince William Parkway?
If you were on Old Bridge Road or Prince William Parkway heading into Manassas Monday before noon, chances are you saw a Prince William County police motorcade escorting a bunch of cyclists.
It’s more than that. Those cyclists in white jerseys were participating in the Ride 2 Recovery Memorial Day Challenge. It's is a ride that’s held nationwide as a fundraiser for recovery labs and outdoor cycling programs at military and veteran affairs locations around the country to help wounded veterans.
Given the context of what the race was for, it was very cool to sit at the stoplight at Old Bridge Road and Antietam Road to see cars honking and people clapping for the cyclists as they made their way through Woodbridge.

Once the cyclists passed—they had just completed the monster hill on Old Bridge Road that begins at Colby Drive—a caravan of support vehicles followed. One pick up truck had a painted sign on the back that read “caution, wounded riders ahead.”
Cyclists started in Washington, D.C. on Monday and rode all the way to Manassas. Tuesday, the cyclists will ride from Manassas to Fredericksburg. The entire ride ends in Virginia Beach.
