Woodbridge Native Shaboozey Earns Grammy Nominations

WOODBRIDGE, VA — Woodbridge's hometown boy has earned Grammy nominations among other top artists across the U.S. and beyond.

Shaboozey, who hails from Woodbridge and attended Gar-Field High School, collected five Grammy nominations from the Recording Academy. A sixth nomination is for David Guetta's remix of "A Bar Song (Tipsy)."

The nominations include:

• Song of the Year: "A Bar Song (Tipsy)" — Sean Cook, Jerrel Jones, Joe Kent, Chibueze Collins Obinna, Nevin Sastry & Mark Williams, songwriters (Shaboozey)
• Best New Artist: Shaboozey
• Best Melodic Rap Performance: "SPAGHETTII" — Beyoncé Featuring Linda Martell & Shaboozey
• Best Country Solo Performance: "A Bar Song (Tipsy)" — Shaboozey
• Best Country Song: "A Bar Song (Tipsy)" — Sean Cook, Jerrel Jones, Joe Kent, Chibueze Collins Obinna, Nevin Sastry & Mark Williams, songwriters (Shaboozey)
• Best Remixed Recording: "A Bar Song (Tipsy) [Remix]" — David Guetta, remixer (Shaboozey & David Guetta)

"GOOD LORD!! Today I woke up to 6 Grammy nominations!" Shaboozey said in a social media post following the nominations announcement. "This moment is something I’ve dreamt about ever since I started recording music. I’m grateful for everyone who ever believed and took a chance on me. I wake up grateful every single day. Never give up on your dreams LLC."

Shaboozey, which is the stage name of Collins Obinna Chibueze, is a Woodbridge native and the Nigerian immigrants, according to the Washington Post. He rose to fame with his hit song "A Bar Song (Tipsy)," a mix of country and hip-hop that is currently trending as the top song on the Billboard Hot 100. He told the publication he wants to promote "togetherness" and boost diversity in the country genre.

Shaboozey relocated from Woodbridge to Los Angeles and got a record deal before unveiling his first album in 2018, according to the Washington Post. He put out a second album before entering the spotlight with the appearance on Beyoncé's "Cowboy Carter" and releasing his own "A Bar Song (Tipsy)." His newest album, "Where I've Been, Isn't Where I'm Going," came out at the end of May.

The recording artist is currently touring with Jelly Roll on select dates. Shaboozey was also announced as the performer at the Detroit Lions' 85th annual Thanksgiving Day Classic versus the Chicago Bears on Nov. 28.
