5 Dead After Weekend House Fire In Thurston County

Several agencies are still investigating a house fire that left two adults and three children dead Saturday southwest of Olympia.

OLYMPIA, WA — Thurston County investigators are still working to determine what caused a house fire that claimed the lives of two adults and three children early Saturday morning. According to the sheriff's office, fire crews from across the county rushed to a rural property on Sherman Valley Road in the Capitol Forest just after 6:30 a.m.

The first units to arrive found the structure "completely engulfed in flames," and learned five people were still inside, deputies said. One young person who was visiting the home was able to make it to safety, but the victims remaining inside had already died.

Thurston County detectives remained at the scene Saturday and are working with West Thurston Fire, Southeast Thurston Fire, and federal investigators to determine what started the deadly blaze. Law enforcement officials said they would share more details on the case as they become available.
