Crashes Block Traffic Over Snoqualmie Pass

Crashes involving semi-trucks and several other vehicles Thursday prompted a full closure of Interstate 90 between North Bend and Cle Elum.

SNOQUALMIE PASS, WA — Holiday travel continues to be challenging and hazardous for drivers headed over the mountain passes amid exceptionally cold temperatures and ice impacting roads across Western Washington.

Interstate 90 closed in both directions over Snoqualmie Pass on Thursday, following multiple crashes involving semi-trucks and other vehicles. According to Washington State Patrol, one of the crashes involved a state trooper, but none of the collisions resulted in major injuries.

There was still no estimated time for reopening the pass late Thursday morning, as crews worked to remove vehicles and debris from the roadway. While warmer temperatures are on the way, forecasters expected more headaches as snow turned to freezing rain, renewing widespread ice concerns.
