OLYMPIA, WA — Gov. Jay Inslee tested positive Wednesday for COVID-19 but was experiencing "very mild" symptoms, according to his office. This is the governor's second bout with the illness, following his first positive test last May when he also experienced minor symptoms.

In a news release Wednesday, Inslee's office said the governor would continue working remotely and taking meetings virtually while he recovers. A spokesperson for the governor said Inslee has received three booster shots, starting in October 2021, then again last March and September.

According to the Seattle Times, human resources notified nearly a dozen staffers about potential exposure but no one else has tested positive for the virus. The governor's wife, Trudi, also tested negative.

"Once again I am very appreciative to be vaccinated and boosted," Inslee said in a statement. "This is a scientific fight that has given us the capacity to prevent hospitalizations or worse. I encourage folks who haven't received their booster to talk with their doctor and avail themselves of this protective, life-saving measure.
