Navy Vet Dies After Motorcycle Crash

Mikhaill "Mike" Stewart, 28, was heading to work Sunday night when he hit a deer on the highway outside Richland.

RICHLAND, WA — Despite their best efforts, doctors at Kadlec Hospital in Richland were unable to save the life of 28-year-old Navy veteran Mikhaill "Mike" Stewart, who on Sunday night sustained traumatic brain injuries when he struck a deer while riding his motorcycle to work.

Described as a man dedicated to his family, Stewart is survived by his wife, Kylie, and two children: 2-year-old son Maverick and 5-year-old step-daughter Henley. To assist Stewart's family, his in-laws created a GoFundMe campaign raising money for funeral expenses and to support his wife and kids.

Created Monday with a set goal of $20,000, the campaign by Tuesday morning had already exceeded its target by more than $3,000 thanks to the generous donations of 373 people.

The crash reportedly occurred Nov. 4 on Route 4 South, near mile post 14 and Energy Northwest. After the crash, Samaritans reportedly tried to help Stewart by lifting his motorcycle from where it landed on top of him. However, Stewart remained unresponsive after the crash and during his transport to hospital.

Police reportedly said there's no reason to think Stewart was speeding or driving recklessly prior to the crash, and he was said to have been wearing a helmet at the time.
