SR 410 Repairs Begin Soon Near Crystal Mountain
The project is designed to prevent further issues on the highway near Crystal Mountain, which was blocked by debris flow in November.

ENUMCLAW, WA — Contractors will soon begin repairs along a stretch of State Route 410, a few miles below Crystal Mountain Ski Resort, to correct issues caused by a storm in early November. According to the Washington State Department of Transportation, the work will take place in two parts, with the first scheduled to begin later this month.
"Heavy rains in early November created a debris flow along Dry Creek above SR 410 and completely blocked the ironically named creek’s channel, forcing it to flow into another channel with a smaller culvert under SR 410," WSDOT said Thursday. "The smaller culvert plugged, causing water and two feet of debris to spill across SR 410. The highway reopened after several hours, once WSDOT cleared and inspected it."
Since the creek's course is permanently altered, WSDOT said it's necessary to expand flow capacity under the highway to prevent worse outcomes in the future. The first phase of the project will reduce SR 410 to a single lane at Dry Creek, where crews will install three overflow culverts to divert any excess runoff.

Officials said completing that fix now will reduce the risk of damage to the road during spring runoff and delay the more impactful closure until after ski season concludes.
The second phase is scheduled for summer and will require a stretch of SR 410 to close for several days. During that time, crews will need to fully excavate 100 feet of the highway, install a new 10-foot culvert, then rebuild the road.
