Toddler's Unibrow Not Waxed At Daycare: State Investigation

The state looked into a mother's claim that a daycare employee waxed her 1-1/2-year-old's eyebrows.

PASCO, WA - The state Department of Early Learning has concluded its investigation into claims that a Tri Cities daycare employee waxed students' eyebrows earlier this year. The state found that the waxing claims - and possible abuse - were "unfounded."

The daycare, which is at Columbia Basin College, called the allegation "unsubstantiated" at the time. The state's investigation focused on a mother's claim that her son had been waxed and possibly abused at the daycare.

"The investigation of the Boys N Girls Club was opened in February following complaints filed by a parent and a police officer. The parent alleged that her 1-1/2-year-old son had his eyebrows waxed at the center on Feb. 1, and that she also noticed bruising on her son’s body. The DEL and the Division of Licensed Resources Child Protective Services opened separate investigations into the incident.

"The DEL determined that the complaints were unfounded. Investigators found no evidence that the child’s eyebrows were waxed while at the center or that the child received bruising at the center," the state DEL wrote in a press release.

In February, Alyssa Salgado posted on Facebook about her daughter's alleged waxing, writing that her 1-1/2-year-old came home from daycare with a red mark between her eyebrows. Salgado believed the mark came from hair wax used to remove the child's uni-brow.
