Washington had one of its strongest Apple harvests this year, according to a new report.

YAKIMA, WA — This year's apple crop is among the largest ever recorded in Washington. The Washington State Tree Fruit Association estimated 138.2 million 40-pound boxes of apples were harvested this season. According to the Yakima Herald-Republic, that number is far ahead of the 116.7 million boxes harvested in 2018, but falls short of a record 141.8 million boxes set in 2014.
The total includes only apples slated to be sold fresh, excluding others that will be converted into juice or applesauce. Gala ranked as the top variety, comprising 23.5 percent of the overall harvest. Red Delicious claimed the number two spot.
