LYNNWOOD, WA — Four men affiliated with white supremacist organizations were sentenced Monday to prison time after they assaulted a Black man at a Lynnwood bar due to his race, according to authorities.

Jason DeSimas, 45; Jason Stanley, 46; Randy Smith, 42; and Daniel Dorson, 27, previously each pleaded guilty to one count of committing a hate crime and one count of lying to investigators about their role in the assault, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.

“Imagine being attacked by four men purely because of the color of your skin,” Special Agent in Charge Richard Collodi of the FBI Seattle Field Office said in a news release. “The victim in this case does not have to imagine. Tragically, he lived it. With today’s sentences, my hope is the victim feels some sense of justice has been served.”

On Dec. 8, 2018, the four men, who were in the area to attend an annual white supremacist gathering, entered the bar with a large group, including members of the Crew 38 and Hammerskins white supremacist organizations, according to the department. The four men used racist slurs, wore white supremacist symbols and had Nazi tattoos, federal authorities said. Stanley and Smith gave the Nazi salute while dancing at the bar, according to the department.

All four men assaulted the bar’s DJ, who had attempted to move Stanley away from the music equipment, federal authorities said. The men punched and kicked the DJ, even after he fell to the floor, while some in their group called the victim, who is Black, racial slurs, according to the department.

Two bystanders tried to intervene, but the men assaulted them as well, federal officials said.

The victim, identified by the department only as T.S., suffered pain, bleeding, swelling, bruising and unconsciousness.

“The defendants subjected a Black man to a brutal and racially motivated assault,” Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke, of the justice department’s Civil Rights Division, said in the news release. “Racially motivated hate crimes terrorize entire communities, and they have no place in our society.

All four men made false claims to authorities about their presence in the state at the time of the attack, use of a racial slur, or possession of apparel associated with a hate group, according to the department.

DeSimas was sentenced to 48 months in prison; Stanley was sentenced to 47 months and nine days; Smith was sentenced to 42 months; and Dorson was sentenced to 28 months, authorities said.
