Woman With Knife Attacks Man Outside Vancouver Apartment: Sheriff

Ester Mitchell was allegedly returning with a second knife, after the victim took the first knife, when deputies arrested her.

VANCOUVER, WA — Clark County deputies on Sunday arrested a Vancouver woman who allegedly slashed at a man's throat while he sat in his car outside her apartment complex. It's unclear whether the alleged attack was provoked or completely random.

Ester J. Mitchell, 49, was taken to Clark County Jail and charged with first degree assault, Clark County sheriff's officials said.

Deputies were reportedly dispatched at 1 p.m. Nov. 11 to the Willow Creek apartments at 8500 N.E. Hazel Dell Ave. Responding to a malicious mischief call, deputies were told a man was sitting in his car outside the apartment building where Mitchell lives when Mitchell allegedly reached into the man's car through the driver's side window and slashed at his throat with a knife.

Deputies say the man tried to drive away after he was first cut but stopped when Mitchell reached into the car a second time. During the second attack the man was able to wrest the knife away and Mitchell fled, deputies said.

As deputies interviewed the victim, Mitchell reportedly returned to the area armed with a butcher knife.

After she dropped the weapon as instructed by deputies, Mitchell was arrested.

The man reportedly sustained minor injuries to his neck.
