Bellevue Attorney to Face Off Against Redmond Councilman for Eddy's Seat

Cyrus Habib of Bellevue, a Democrat, face Republican Hank Myers, a Redmond City Councilman for State Rep. Deb Eddy's seat, which she is vacating.

Bellevue attorney Cyrus Habib and will face each other for State Rep. Deb Eddy's seat in the 48th Legislative District.

Rep. Eddy, a Democrat from Kirkland, , leaving an open seat.

Habib and Myers are the only people who have filed for the seat, but because of the state's top 2 primary system, they will be on the August primary ballot and the November general election ballot.

The 48th Legislative District includes Medina, Bellevue, Kirkland and Redmond.

Habib said in a press release that he has raised more than $115,000 and gained endorsements from 48th Legislative District incumbents Sen. Rodney Tom and Rep. Ross Hunter, the League of Education Voters, Kirkland Firefighters and the Washington State Association of Nurses.

“We quietly raised funds and earned the support of leaders and organizations throughout the winter and spring,” said Habib in a prepared statement. “The outpouring of support from across the political spectrum and from friends and neighbors on the Eastside is incredible. We are hitting the ground running for a competitive election season."

Habib grew up on the Eastside and graduated from Bellevue schools, but went to Yale Law School and was a Rhodes Scholar. He works for Perkins Coie, where he helps establish technology firms.

Habib has been blind since he lost his sight to a rare form of cancer when he was 8 years old.

Habib says his past civic experience includes the Bellevue Human Rights Commissioner, a Trustee of the Bellevue College Foundation, and on the board of the Bellevue Downtown Association. Habib has testified before the U.S. Congress on issues important to the disabled community, and helps raise funds for Overlake Hospital.
