Purpose of Gathering Family Feedback
The annual Family Engagement Survey gathers feedback from every district family around how informed, supported and empowered they feel, by their school community, to contribute to their students’ success. The valuable feedback obtained from each family is essential to the continuous improvement and advancement of family engagement practices specific to each school community. This effort is part of the Family and Community Priority of the 2018-2023 BSD Strategic Plan. Please refer to the Family Engagement Community Report for the results from the 2019-2020 Baseline Family Engagement Survey.

How the Family Engagement Survey Data is Used
The results of the Family Engagement Survey are utilized each year to evaluate the effectiveness of strategies used in school and department improvement plans. The district family engagement mission is to support sustainable engagement practices that build trust, are culturally responsive, and create a welcoming space for all families — particularly those who have been traditionally marginalized — in order for them to be more informed, better able to find support and more empowered to contribute to student success.
“We really appreciate our families for taking the time to fill out the quick family engagement survey. This survey gives our schools valuable information about what is going well with family engagement and how we can improve. Our ultimate goal as a district is to listen to, learn from and lead with families toward strong, supportive and positive schools for each and every student.” – Kelly Aramaki, Ed.D., Executive Director of Schools
Upcoming Grading Survey
Upon completion of the Family Engagement Survey, we invite you to provide your input on grading in the Bellevue School District.
The Grading Advisory Team was formed in October of 2020 to develop a district-wide grading plan. The team is committed to working with educators, students and families to explore grading practices through a lens of effectiveness and equity. The intended outcome is to create a grading system that accurately reflects learning, is resistant to bias, is motivating for students, and is a more meaningful measure of student progress.
While the focus of the grading practices will be on grades 6-12, all families (elementary, middle and high) are invited to complete the survey. Visit our Grades & Attendance webpage for more information.
