Bellevue School District: Equity Advisory And Advocacy Collaborative Seeking New Members

Dear BSD Parents, Guardians, and Caregivers,

"The Bellevue School District’s mission is to serve each and every student academically, socially, and emotionally, through a rigorous and relevant education that is innovative and individualized. As a learning community that values one another’s humanity, we provide courageous support for an equitable and exceptional education for all students.

Now in its 4th year, the Equity Advisory Group was formed to provide advice to the BSD Superintendent and district leadership on issues of equity, and to support the implementation of BSD Board Policy 0130 – Equity and Accountability. The name of the group is changing to the Equity Advisory and Advocacy Collaborative, (EAAC) to signify the importance of advocacy and collaborative action.

Equity issues have intensified due to COVID and distant learning, especially for students receiving special education services, multilingual learners, low-income students, and students of color.

This year’s EAAC work will focus on:

1. Advisement on specific policies identified by the School Board;
2. Advisement on the implementation of planning efforts such as the Annual Plan and Recovery Plan; and
3. Advocacy related to social justice and equity on behalf of all students at BSD, with an emphasis on students receiving special education services, multilingual learners, low-income students, and students of color.

We are seeking 5-8 parents/guardians/caregivers to join this group. Members will be selected to represent a cross-section of schools, grade-levels, BSD programs, and geographic areas of our district. Successful applicants will also commit to serve in alignment with the EAAC Belief Statements. The remainder of participants will be community stakeholders, educators, administrators, and staff of BSD.

Members commit to attending all sessions (online until further notice) from Dec 2021 – June 2022

• May 18, 5-7 pm
• June 8, 5-7 pm
