Bellevue School District: Partnership With Sistema Escolar Continues With January 24 Session

Since the start of the 2021-22 academic year, the Bellevue School District has partnered with Sistema Escolar USA LLC, a local woman-owned company that focuses on informing Spanish-speaking parents about the American public education system. Sistema Escolar seeks to ensure that families are educated about the opportunities available to students in the Bellevue School District so they may better support the academic success of their student.

As an immigrant parent herself, Liliana Medina identified barriers and began to translate information to help make education systems more accessible for other for immigrant parents. Her desire to help other families led her to found Sistema Escolar.

Sistema Escolar focuses on providing education to parents on a broad range of topics — academic, social-emotional and cultural — in order to support the many challenges of parenting. In partnership with the Bellevue School District, Sistema Escolar has held three workshops for families so far this school year and will hold their next virtual session, focused on the middle school experience, on Monday, January 24, starting at 6:30 p.m.

All Spanish-speaking families with a student in any Bellevue middle school are invited to come learn more about the Bellevue school system. Sistema Escolar will provide information to help families:

• Understand the brain development of pre-teens and middle schoolers.
• Learn strategies to support their student with time management and organization.
• Identify differences between elementary and middle school.
• Understand course selection.
• Know about middle school grading practices in middle school.
