Construction of a new bridge replacing a culvert on Coal Creek Parkway between Forest Drive Southeast and Southeast 60th Street will begin Wednesday May 15, according to the City of Bellevue.
While one lane will be closed initially, two will be shut down by the end of the week, leaving just one lane open in each direction around the clock through November for the first half of the construction. The project is expected to be completed by November 2014.
When the project reaches completion there will be a new passage under the roadway for Coal Creek and for the trail. That will make crossing a lot safer for hikers -- some jaywalk by running across four lanes of traffic on Coal Creek Parkway -- and it will also improve passage for the salmon.
