Are Bellevue Wi-Fi Router Names For or Against Obama?
Maybe a better question is "Why would someone track this?" But someone did. A company has mapped routers in U.S. that have names that seem to show support for or opposition against President Barack Obama.

The politically minded and the technology addicted already know this: this is one way to put your affiliations on your technological sleeve.
Why stop at naming your router after your spouse, children or science fiction base?
Opensignalmaps.com, a company that is using its Android app to create a database of cell phone towers, cell phone signal strength readings, and Wi-Fi access points around the world, mapped a list of Wi-Fi routers in the United States that seem to show support for or opposition against President Barack Obama.

I wouldn't exactly call this practice common in Bellevue -- there are two wi-fi routers listed on OpenSignalMap's map, whereas my desktop computer finds 20 wi-fi routers within range alone -- the two "Obama" routers clearly in Bellevue support the president, with "ObamaNet" and "Obama2012-Guest."
Outside Bellevue, however, is a different matter, with "AbhorObama" up in Redmond, and one Mercer Island router called "Obama Bin Laden."

I think this is just a weird bit of trivia that doesn't really show anything. It could be that Bellevue residents who don't support Obama choose not to mention it in their router name.
And people name their routers for many reasons, which could include trying to repel or attract certain people to try to use their network.
