BONNEY LAKE, WA — Boaters beware! If you were hoping to get out on Lake Tapps this summer, you may not be able to use the Allan Yorke Park Boat Launch.

That's because the City of Bonney Lake has elected to restrict the launch this summer to city residents, in an effort to limit park usage and free up space for construction crews working on the new Allan Yorke Park ballfield.

As The News Tribune first reported, earlier this month the Bonney Lake City Council voted unanimously to keep the launch ramp at 7203 West Tapps Highway E open, but only to local residents who buy a pass and keep their boat trailers parked elsewhere.

"Tow vehicles and watercraft trailers that are parked in any of the Allan Yorke Park lots or in surrounding neighborhoods are subject to having the tow vehicle and watercraft trailer impounded," the city said in a news release.

Bonney Lake residents should be able to buy a launch pass sometime in the next four weeks, once the city has installed new signs and finished modifying the launch site. The city is also allowing residents to sign up for alerts for when launch passes will be available. Passes will cost $30 plus tax, the News Tribune reported, and will be restricted to Pierce County residents who live within Bonney Lake city limits with current drivers licenses.
