Bonney Lake PD Announce Distracted Driving Emphasis Patrol
Extra officers will be out on patrol next month as the city tries to crack down on dangerous driving practices.

BONNEY LAKE, WA — Distracted drivers beware! The Bonney lake Police Department is coming for you.
BLPD announced Tuesday that their officers would be out in full force for the month of April as part of a distracted driving emphasis patrol. During that time, officers will be on the lookout for drivers who are illegally using their cell phones while operating a motor vehicle.
In Washington, it is illegal to use a cell phone without a hands-free device while on the road. Texting while driving is also illegal.

According to the BLPD, 30 percent of Washington's deadly car crashes involve distracted drivers. Distracted driving is also on the rise, seeing a 29 percent increase in distracted driving related traffic fatalities between 2013 and 2017. Talking on a cell phone increases the risk of crashing by up to three times, and texting increases crash risk 23 times.
Considering all the above, Bonney Lake Police say: just don't risk it, stay smart, and take that call once you're off the road.
