BONNEY LAKE, WA — The Tacoma - Pierce County Health Department has announced an upcoming drive-thru vaccine clinic this Saturday at Bonney Lake High School.

The health department says they hope to administer some 1,800 first doses of the Pfizer vaccine between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday. That's a lot of doses — enough that, while patients can register in advance to claim a shot, they'll also be vaccinating just about anyone who stops by and asks for a shot.

Because the clinic is offering the Pfizer vaccine, anyone 16 and older will qualify for a dose, though patients aged 16 and 17 will need a parent or guardian to give written consent.

If Saturday doesn't work for you, don't worry. The clinic is one of dozens of upcoming vaccination events the health department is putting on. Local leaders are hopeful that by organizing these drop-in events, they can remove a barrier to entry and boost the number of Pierce County residents who are vaccinated.

Right now Pierce County's vaccination rate is lagging behind the statewide average, and the heath department says boosting vaccinations will be the key to curbing the county's high transmission rate, and re-entering Phase 3 as soon as possible.
