SUMNER, WA — Firefighters from around the region worked together to contain a three-alarm blaze burning early Friday on Sumner's Main Street. East Pierce Fire & Rescue shared images of multiple downtown businesses on fire on the 900 block of Main Street shortly before 5 a.m., asking residents to avoid the area.

The coordinated fire response included 30 units from neighboring jurisdictions, and crews were able to keep the flames from spreading further before 5:30 a.m., officials said. Puget Sound Energy crews helped contain a natural gas main and police closed several side streets for emergency vehicles.

Firefighters were continuing to deal with hotspots late into the morning at The Attic venue and described the inside of the building as "very unstable."
