Sumner Asks Community For Help Designing Wood & Main Intersection
The city is asking neighbors if they think the intersection improvements should be "snazzy" or perhaps just "contemporary".
SUMNER, WA — A high-profile intersection in downtown Sumner is going to get a brand-new look, but the city is asking for the public's opinion before they commit to a new redesign.
The city says several improvements are necessary to fix the intersection of Main Street and Wood avenue.
Recent projects have upgraded the road and sidewalk along Main Street, and now it's the intersection's turn. Right now, the city's conceptual redesign includes a new traffic signal for better visibility, a raised intersection that prioritizes foot traffic, ADA-compliant sidewalk improvements and back-in angled parking.

But this intersection is a historic part of old town Sumner, so the city wants to make sure they do it right— which is where their new survey comes in. The city has posted this survey on their website asking residents what kind of vibe the new intersection should have: should it be utilitarian, or should it be totally over the top?

Once the votes are tallied, the city says they hope to have completed the intersections design by early next year. After that they'll have to get permitting in place, which they hope to finish by 2021, then construction should be ready to start by January of 2022.
