Sumner Buckley Highway Closed By Deadly Car Crash
Deputies say a driver has died after their car flew off the highway and caught fire early Monday.
SUMNER, WA — A driver has died after their car crashed early Monday morning. Meanwhile, the highway has been closed in both directions for an investigation at the crash site.
According to deputies with the Pierce County Sheriff's Department, the driver had been on Sumner Buckley Highway somewhere between the intersections with Mundy Loss Road and Hinkleman Road in Buckley, when the driver's car flew off the road and the vehicle caught fire.
By the time first responders reached the crash site around 8 a.m. the driver had died. No one else was inside the car and no other injuries have been reported. Deputies say the highway remains closed between Mundy Loss and Hinkleman while they're investigating.

It's unclear when the highway will reopen or what exactly caused this crash, but the investigation is still in the preliminary stages. The identity or description of the driver has also not been released.
