Sumner-Buckley Highway E Resurfacing Delayed To May
When work does begin, drivers are being warned to expect backups and delays.
SUMNER, WA — A major construction project along the Sumner-Buckley Highway E has been delayed to next month.
Initially set to begin April 11, a road resurfacing project along the highway was delayed due to weather concerns. It is now set to begin in early May, though the exact start date has yet to be announced.
When the project does begin, crews will be working along the highway from 258th Avenue East to West Mason Avenue at the Buckley city limits.

The resurfacing could take nearly two months, during which time the two-lane road will intermittently be reduced to one lane with alternating traffic. Crews will be working 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on weekdays, with some exceptions. During that time, drivers are being asked to find alternate routes, or expect delays.
The project will resurface the highway with a new asphalt overlay. While they're there, crews will also replace several worn-down guardrail segments and regrade a portion of the side slope.
