Sumner Link Trail To Remain Closed For Cleanup
The White River has receded, but the City of Sumner says it still needs time to clear the pathway before it's safe for joggers and cyclists.

SUMNER, WA — Looking to hit the trails this weekend? Well, you'll have to steer clear of the popular Sumner Link Trail for the time being.
The Sumner Link Trail was fully closed Thursday afternoon as the city prepared for the White River to flood. Come Friday, and the waters are starting to recede, but the trail will still remain closed for the next few days.
Good morning, #Sumner! Our rivers appear to be headed in the right direction. #wawx pic.twitter.com/n0pYtOcmIt

According to the city, the flooding caused debris to pile up on the trail, which needs to be cleared off before joggers or cyclists can safely use the trail again. Plus, the weekend weather forecast is calling for gusty winds in East Pierce County— pushing the city to delay the reopening until Monday at the earliest.

We've been through the wash cycle and now Mother Nature is tossing us into the dryer. Wind gusts expected to pick up this pm. Make sure all your devices are charged & flashlights handy. And with the soil so saturated, probably NOT the day for a picnic under a large tree. #wawx pic.twitter.com/oikNZKIcqi

The Sumner Link Trail is far from the only closure caused by this week's wild weather. Friday, WSDOT closed a 20-mile portion of I-5 in Central Washington, and heavy snowfall has kept the mountain passes closed since Thursday. Both the I-5 closure and the pass closures are expected to be lifted sometime Sunday.
