Traffic Avenue/SR 410 Closures Moved Up To This Weekend

City officials have announced a last-minute closure for much of the weekend, in an attempt to get the lanes ready ASAP.

SUMNER, WA — Commuters using State Route 41o this weekend will want to be aware of a last-minute closure in Sumner centered around Traffic Avenue.

Thursday afternoon, the City of Sumner announced that the Traffic Avenue Bridge and the accompanying 410 on and off ramps will be closed this weekend.

On Saturday, from 4 a.m. to 7 p.m. the eastbound SR 410 on and off ramps and surrounding bridge will be fully closed. Then on Sunday, the westbound 410 on and off ramps and bridge will be closed.

Organizers say they know the decision has not given commuters a lot of notice, but say they've determined its absolutely necessary to finish the construction on Traffic Avenue as quickly as possible. Traffic buildups over recent days, and especially on Wednesday Oct 28, have been causing significant problems, and by finishing the paving work this weekend and taking advantage of the dry forecast, instead of paving next weekend as previously scheduled, they hope to cut down on future traffic disruptions.

"We apologize for the late notice, but if we don’t do this, there is a potential we can’t do the final paving to bring the new bridge online until next spring, and we’re not even going to take that chance."
