From supporting local domestic violence programs to assisting food banks and schools, Harborstone Credit Union invites you to vote for your favorite cause—and help one fortunate organization win an additional $1,000 from the credit union.
It’s all part of a unique effort called Pay It Forward. Now in its third year, Harborstone uses data from the Credit Union National Association on how much credit unions in Washington State saved the average member household and then pays that amount forward. The estimated amount for 2016 is $198. Harborstone branches and departments use that amount to benefit local charities. Twenty-six projects are then posted to Harborstone’s Facebook page, where the public can vote for the organization that will receive an additional $1,000 donation.

“There are so many worthwhile organizations making the communities we serve even better,” says Phil Jones, CEO of Harborstone. “This is a great way for us to support a charitable organization during this season of giving while also inviting and inspiring our members to help us make the choice.”
Participation in Pay It Forward is easy. Just visit Harborstone’s Facebook page, beginning Dec. 8. Any click on one of the Facebook reaction buttons, a share, or a comment on one of the featured projects will count as a vote. The project with the most reactions, comments, and shares will be evaluated by volunteers from Harborstone’s Board of Directors, and one organization will be awarded an additional $1,000 on Jan. 23.
