Beat Brackett 5K Registration Now Open
The annual Independence Day race will see roughly 750 participants kickoff a full day of July 4 festivities in Edmonds.

EDMONDS, WA - Registration for this summer's Beat Brackett 5K and Baby Brackett 1K is now open at the official Edmonds Chamber of Commerce website. Set for Independence Day morning, the Brackett races will kickoff a full day of festivities happening in the heart of historic downtown Edmonds July 4.
Advance registration is $30 for adults and includes a special Beat Brackett race shirt. Prospective racers who don't want a shirt can register for $25. Pre-registration is preferred, but $30 day-of registration will be accepted up to half an hour before the race July 4; racing shirts are not guaranteed for latecomers, though. No-shirt registration for kids is $5.
Families with up to four participants can register for the Baby Brackett 1K for $15.

Online registration will end July 1.
Each race is gender and age-group specific, with the Brackett brackets broken down into kids, 0 to 12 years, teens 13 to 19, then racers in their 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, and 70s-plus. Each racer will receive an RFID chip attached to either their race bib or shoelace for accurate race timing, as well as a performance racing shirt for those who opt in.

Additionally, to fully embrace the spirit of the race's namesake, fake Brackett beards will be available for runners who want to experience a 5K run in July with a face full of hair.
At least 750 people are expected to participate in this year's Brackett race, each of whom will have an opportunity to "Beat Brackett" for a chance to take on the coveted role in 2020, according to the Edmonds Chamber.
Before the race, one registered 5K runner will be selected as the designated George Brackett. It will be the goal for each racer to defeat the designated Brackett for a chance to become Brackett in next year's race, officials said.
In 2018, only 46 runners successfully "Beat Brackett" to the finish line.
Along with the "Beat Brackett" competition and awards for the top finishers, the event will also include a contest for the runners with the best Fourth of July-themed costumes.
All proceeds from the Beat Brackett 5K and Baby Brackett 1K are used to fund the entire Independence Day celebration in Edmonds, including the evening's fireworks display, officials said.
