• Edmonds City Council Dec. 16 scheduled to adopt mid-biennial budget modifications, critical areas ordinance update (myedmondsnews.com) — Edmonds residents may see a new 0.1% sales tax for transportation and key changes to the city’s 2025-26 budget as the city council votes on both Tuesday night. Councilmembers will also adjust the Critical Areas Ordinance, set a hearing on vacating part of 84th Ave. W., and share an update on new city software, with options to attend in person or via Zoom.
   

• Want to recycle your Christmas tree? Scouts are here to help in early January (myedmondsnews.com) — If you’re in Edmonds and need to recycle your Christmas tree, local Scout Troop 300 will be collecting trees at Westgate Elementary and St. Alban’s Episcopal Church on the first two January weekends. Nearby Lynnwood-area troops are also offering drop-off and pickup options, with donations welcome but not required, as long as trees are undecorated and not flocked.
   

• Pet fire safety tips from Washington State Fire Marshal (myedmondsnews.com) — Edmonds pet owners are being urged to take extra care around candles, fireplaces, and space heaters after state data showed hundreds of open-flame fires in Washington last year. Shared via My Edmonds News, the State Fire Marshal’s tips include keeping pets away from cooking areas, using fireplace screens, securing cords, and switching to flameless candles to reduce home fire risks.
