Grammy-Winning Flautist To Perform In Edmonds

The Cascade Symphony Orchestra in May will feature Grammy award winning flautist Alexander Lipay for its performance of "Mozart & Mahler."

EDMONDS, WA - From Cascade Symphony: Alexander Lipay, 2017 Grammy Award winning musician, will be the featured Hazel Miller Foundation Soloist when the Cascade Symphony Orchestra — under the direction of maestro Michael Miropolsky — performs its “Mozart & Mahler” concert at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, May 6, at the Edmonds Center for the Arts (ECA), 410 4t'h Ave. North.

A pre-concert lecture at 6:30 p.m. by KING-FM’s Dave Beck will preview the evening’s musical pieces, including 20th century Russian composer Georgy Sviridov’s “Snow Storm Suite” and Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 “The Titan.”

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s “Flute Concerto No. 2 in D Major” will be performed by Lipay, who is the principal flute of the Tucson Symphony Orchestra. He also holds the same position with the Tucson Pops, True Concord Voices and Orchestra, St. Andrew’s Bach Society Chamber Orchestra and the Arizona Chamber Orchestra.

Lipay has previously appeared in numerous international music festivals, including “Musical Olympus” in St. Petersburg, Russia; “Moulin d’Ande” in France; Galway Flute Festival in Weggis, Switzerland; and Sunriver Music Festival in Oregon. He is the Grand Prix winner of the 2015 International Festival, Competition of Arts “St. Petersburg Christmas Assembly, first prize winner of the 2004 MTNA Young Artist National Woodwind Competition, and first prize winner of the 2002 Santa Barbara Performing Arts Competition.

Ticket prices for this concert — the final one for the 2018-19 season — are $27 for adults, $22 for seniors, $15 for students with an ID, and $10 for youngsters 12 and younger.

Due to the demand for tickets, Cascade Symphony Orchestra (CSO) encourages patrons to return any tickets to the ECA box office that they will not be able to use. Even though a concert may be “sold out,” returned tickets do become available, including at the door the day of the event. Patrons can call the ECA at (425) 275-9595 or come early (around 6:15 p.m.) on concert night
