Joseph Whalen Named Acting Everett Community College President Starting January 1
The board voted unanimously to select Whalen as acting president until an interim president is named.

EVERETT, Wash. – Everett Community College’s Board of Trustees has named EvCC Vice President of Human Resources Joseph Whalen as acting president of the college starting Jan. 1.

Whalen, of Snohomish, will take over from current EvCC president Daria Willis, who announced her resignation in November to become president of Howard Community College. Her last day is Dec. 31.

Whalen expressed his appreciation for the guidance of the Board of Trustees as well as for the legacy presented by Willis. “This is a tremendous honor,” Whalen said.
Following this appointment, the trustees will soon select an interim president to serve for 12-18 months.
Whalen joined EvCC July 1. He has 18 years of human resources experience, most recently leading human resources programs for some of the nation’s largest healthcare providers. He’s worked in the healthcare, defense and government sectors.
Whalen holds dual professional certifications as Society for Human Resource Management Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) and as Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) with the Human Resources Certification Institute. He has recently participated in the Executive Leadership Institute with the League for Innovation in the Community College.
He holds an associate degree from North Idaho College; a bachelor's degree in Human Resource Management from Eastern Washington University; and a MBA, Human Resource Management, from St. Edward’s University.
